WM in action & kit

These are a series of images both showing places where I have painted and the variety of kit used,  particularly for plein-air work and potrait-sketches.

Jaffrey, New Hampshire
A wonderful visit to Jaffrey, New Hampshire in 2019 after our son's marriage in NYC last year. We stayed with our cousins Tom and Margo Smith and had some great walks. Tom took the photo of an attempt at some water-colour - using very light-weight gear.

Egypt 2009

Our son Thomas and I had a brief break in Egypt and the water-colour sketching opportunities were amazing. Thomas couldn't resist this photo
Above Munlochy
Above Munlochy

A big canvas on a beautiful quiet October day above Munlochy looking towards Ben Wyvis. My friend Allan described this as 'A First Scent of Autumn'. That probably ought to be the title. Here's the kit!

Yes it was COLD! Libby is smiling as a bare-hand sketch takes place because the gloves were too cumbersome! The sacrifices....!

Bangor N Ireland
A massive privilege to be doing portrait-sketches at a 'Christmas hand-made craft fair' in 2019 . It was organised by our daughter Sarah who also had a stall as did our grand-daughter - 3 generations together!!
New Zealand 2015
New Zealand 2015

A 40th wedding-anniversary treat for Libby and I of a month in New Zealand in 2015. What an amazing country and what a great place for some sketching!
With Maasai Lady
With Maasai Lady

A once-in-a-lifetime chance in a Maasai Village to do portrait-sketches of some wonderful Kenyan people. Here with one of the ladies. Crystal - now married to Thomas - took the photo. Never go without art materials!
Ben Eighe Rainbow
Ben Eighe Rainbow
Sometimes the kit itself becomes the subject! This was just one of those moments painting Ben Eighe when rain and sun combined producing an amazing rainbow.
Drawing Ingrid
Drawing Ingrid

A professional photographer's take on portrait-sketching at the Bangor Christmas Fair. He has caught the vivid busyness of the Fair but kept a simple focus on the drawing.
At Nairn Book & Arts Week
At Nairn Book & Arts Week
Here with Nathan after doing his portrait-sketch at Nairn Book and Arts Week. The 'Week' is like a miniature 'Edinburgh Fringe' and it has been a privilege to be invited there for the last five years.
Kit on bike
Kit on bike
A day's cycling in the Cairngorms with all the kit in saddle-bags and a rucksack - with flurries of rain and snow. Here by Gleann Eanaich. The big challenge - getting wet-oils back home!
