Welcome to my website!
Hi - I'm William Mather and I live and paint in the Scottish Highlands, working in all media but particularly oils.
For years I have worked outdoors in watercolours but in the last few years oils have taken over….again mostly painting on 'plein air' in all weathers.
I'm also finding a lot of portraits coming my way and here is one in pastel of Jeremy Hutton, my cousin, who very sadly died in 2017. I was so pleased to be able to give this to the family just a few months before his death.
Work takes place from my studio, close to our home in Fortrose, near Inverness. This is base-camp for working in acrylics, pastel, charcoal, pen-and-ink as well as oils.
This website reflects the diversity that I enjoy from Landscapes and Portraits, to ‘Portrait Sketches’. There are also abstracts and cartoon-style drawings for ‘Bible Sketchbook’ on the the church-website www.parishpump.co.uk.
Painting has been a joy all my life, but for 35 years I have responded to the call to be a church minister in the Anglican Church - so there’s not been much time for anything else! I have exhibited when possible but retirement in 2010 has given much more time for the painting.
My wife, Libby and I have three wonderful children all doing interesting things in different areas of interest.
Just click on one of the 'galleries' above and enjoy a good browse! And to make an image a bit bigger just click on that too!
